Concepts for the Future - Research and Development in a Highly Innovative SMB
Research + Development
In 1971 Professor Wölfel launched - following his practice at university - the company Woelfel which is based on his researches at Darmstadt University of Technology. Nowadays one would call such a young company “spin-off” of Darmstadt University of Technology. During the first couple of years the company aimed at making the arising computer simulation - namely the-finite-element-method - accessible to Germany`s industry. Thus, Woelfel functioned as a mediator between university research and industrial application. To this day this mediator role is a distinctive feature of our company, since we have always been keen to be at the top of technological developments, even though tasks have changed:
In the 70ies, we primarily dealt with FE-Simulation with regard to dynamics, in the 80ies we added experimental modal analysis, based on our dynamics know-how to the simulation and merged calculation and measurement.
In the 90ies, we were mainly involved in probabilistic risk studies and today we are engaged in industrial oriented, applied research in the area of dynamics - our core competence - including themes as:
- Earthquake Engineering
- Seating Comfort
- Active Vibration Reduction
- Structural Health Monitoring
Current Projects
With respect to the industrial application of our research results, we are presently co-operating with universities, research institutes and industrial partners. Our present projects concern:
CMS – Innovative Condition Monitoring System
Cassem – Composites and Adaptive Structures
Safe Pipes – Safety Assessment and Lifetime Management of Industrial Piping Systems
I-SSB - Integrated Safe and Smart Built
Active Noise Protection – Active Absorber for Vibration Reduction for Noise Protection at Work Places
