CMS - Condition Monitoring System
Project Initiator: DLR

Structure Monitoring System for Planes, Rotor Blades and Piping Systems
Condition Monitoring of security and functional-relevant components is absolutely essential in many different industrial sectors. Besides the safety aspect priority is mainly given to environmental protection and resource-saving application of materials. Prolonging the durability of technical plants can be of value here.
In the context of the CMS project, the acronym meaning “condition monitoring system”, novel sensor networks, monitoring systems and analysis procedures are developed. With these new developments the integrity of technical structures can be monitored periodically or continuously via analysis of modal parameters and by means of applying ultrasonic waves. The efficiency of the aspired system solution is exemplified by three selected applications from the following areas:
- Power Engineering (Monitoring of rotor blades of wind energy plants)
- Aviation Industries (Monitoring of CFP components of airplanes)
- System Engineering (Monitoring of piping systems for conveyance of hazardous substance, and monitoring of water circulation / steam cycle of power plants)
