CASIMIR/Automotive – CAE solution for the virtual analysis of seating comfort

CASIMIR/Automotive is Wölfel’s simulation tool for the virtual analysis of seating comfort using digital prototypes. For a simple integration into existing workflows, CASIMIR/Automotive was included into the finite element preprocessor HyperMesh® and uses ABAQUS/Standard® as finite element solver .

The following seating comfort parameters can be computed with the software:

  • Static seat pressure distribution
  • „Meat-to-Metal“
  • H-point according to SAE J826
  • Backset value according to FMVSS 208
  • Seat transfer function in horizontal (x, y) and vertical direction (z)
  • Vibration loads acting on the occupant while driving

Similar to hardware based seat development CASIMIR/Automotive includes the following product levels:

  • Seat structure
  • Unoccupied seat
  • Occupied seat

By using the "project managerthe user has a permanent overview over all development variants. In order to cover real application range, the edge percentiles f05 (small female) and m95 (large male) are available, in addition to CASIMIR m50 (average male).

Occupant Model CASIMIR: 3 standard percentiles

Moreover the user can use "Posture Processor" to the adapt the posture of the CASIMIR occupant model by selecting appropriate body angles.

CASIMIR/Automotive allows for complete handling of material properties for foam and cover, including test data processing and material model identification (statics and dynamics), integration of material models into a current seat model and material model administration in a data base. All this is done within the software module called “material manager”. Furthermore it is possible to develop a user-specific data base for future projects. Administration within a data base allows for an exhange of material models for foams and covers between different venhicle projects.
