Wölfel Engineering conducted a workshop on earthquake engineering in Cairo

On behalf of Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS) gGmbH (GRS) Dr.-Ing. Carsten Block and Dr.-Ing. Marcus Ries conducted a two day workshop for the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA).

The workshop took place on Dec.14./15  in Cairo, Egypt. ENRRA is provided assistance related to developing and strengthening the capabilities of the Egyptian Nuclear Safety Authority. The workshop was part of Project INSC EG3.01/10.
The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security of the IAEA is conducting several projects with funding from the European Commission under the Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC). These projects are implemented by the IAEA under its approved Regular Programme with supplementary funding by the European Commission. These projects aim to support the promotion of a high level of nuclear and radiation safety, radiation protection, radioactive waste management and remediation. As such, the projects support two of the INSC objectives, i.e.

  • The promotion of an effective nuclear safety culture and implementation of the highest nuclear safety standards and radiation protection at all levels
  • Responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste, decommissioning and remediation of former nuclear sites and installations.
