High availability requirements for ageing vehicles, complex critical infrastructure systems and an increasing shortage of skilled labour call for intelligent monitoring. Undetected damage can result in costly secondary failures. At the same time, frequent scheduled inspections are costly and labour-intensive.

CMS.Rail analyses sensor data, detects deviations and negative trends at an early stage and provides precise maintenance recommendations. This makes railway operations safer and more economical.

  • Intelligent vehicle and infrastructure monitoring in one software package
  • Identification of damage patterns with engineering expertise, intelligent data analysis and AI
  • Automated recommendations for action for maintenance teams
  • Simple integration into the existing IT infrastructure

The Wölfel solution

_____________

CMS.Rail is a modular software solution for monitoring the condition of railway vehicles and infrastructure. It processes sensor data from existing accelerometers and GPS positions and translates it into actionable insights. Damage to wheels and rails is thus recognised at an early stage and maintenance can be planned. Thanks to open interfaces and a modular software architecture, CMS.Rail can be easily integrated into existing IT and IoT environments.

Analyses are performed locally or cloud-based with full control over all processes and data sovereignty. The system combines asset and infrastructure monitoring in one solution and thus enables a holistic view of the entire railway system - scalable, data-based, for fast reactions.

The advantages at a glance

Early detection
Damage such as flat spots,
out-of-round wheels or infrastructure
damage is reliably detected.

Simple integration
Seamless integration with existing
IT systems and connection via API interfaces,
all data remains on site.

Predictive maintenance
Maintenance at the optimal time:
predictable, condition-based and
resource-efficient.

AI-supported forecasts
Intelligent algorithms analyse
damage trends and loads -
for precise predictions.

Fewer breakdowns, lower costs
Reduced emergency operations,
less consequential damage,
higher availability.

Data protection & security
Local or secure cloud processing:
no external data flows,
full data sovereignty.

Research & training

_____________

“As part of RailCampus OWL, we aim to contribute to ensuring safe, efficient and environmentally friendly railway operations through our expertise in monitoring and structural dynamics. One example of this is enableATO – a project to develop automated technologies for rail operations in rural areas.“ (Manuel Eckstein, Head of Simulation + Predictive Maintenance)

_____________

CMS.Rail enables the early detection of technical problems, improves maintenance planning and reduces downtime. Integration takes place without additional hardware and without external data transmission - simply, safely and cost-effectively.

_____________

Manufacturers can use CMS.Rail as an integrated solution in vehicle platforms. This increases the service life, improves operating efficiency and increases the attractiveness of the product portfolio.

Vehicle and track monitoring are linked in one software programme. This means that damage can be clearly assigned - for example, whether it is on the wheel or in the track - and targeted measures can be initiated. This improves cooperation between operations, maintenance and infrastructure management.

Practical example: ICE4

_____________

As part of a pilot project, an ICE 4 was equipped with acceleration sensors in order to analyse in detail over 40 journeys on a defined route. The aim was to identify wheel wear and out-of-roundness.

CMS.Rail made it possible to separate vehicle and infrastructure defects and to derive the vehicle speed from the sensor data. Statistical procedures compensated for measurement uncertainties - for example in speed or wheel diameter - and delivered reliable results. Live visualizations and automated alerts further supported real-time operations.
