The aim of the overall project is to develop an economically competitive observer-based condition monitoring system (BCMS), which enables a reliable determination of the main gearbox condition of a wind turbine as well as an application-specific residual lifetime assessment. An important prerequisite is that the BCMS can be added to a wind turbine with an existing CMS and that the system can be easily integrated into a wind turbine. By using BCMS, new maintenance strategies can be developed, thus reducing maintenance costs and increasing plant availability. In addition, the measuring data obtained can lead to new findings regarding operating loads. These findings can then be used in the design and development of main gearboxes of wind turbines.
