Optimized Seat Development with CASIMIR/Automotive

The CASIMIR/Automotive software tool was developed specifically for the virtual evaluation and optimization of seating comfort. The basis for this is a deep understanding of the interaction between seat and human, which results in special requirements for the modeling of both.

CASIMIR, virtual occupant model for analyzing seat comfort:

"Congratulations! You have recognized the advantages of virtual seat development in its various forms. Let me now introduce you to the benefits of CASIMIR/Automotive in detail.
A quick introduction: My name is CASIMIR. I am the result of years of continuous development and represent the human body with its mechanical and sensory properties with precision. Thanks to me, you can identify early on exactly where your seat design still has room for optimization."

Expectations for seat comfort vary significantly worldwide. Key factors include ergonomics, such as adjustment options, design, and the tactile quality of materials. Temperature regulation can also have a decisive impact on comfort and well-being. However, the most critical point is that each individual has unique anthropometric characteristics and, therefore, sits differently.

To meet these diverse demands, the CASIMIR/Automotive model family offers a wide range of percentiles and accounts for various body types. It covers a broad spectrum of the population in Asia, North America, and Europe. This enables optimal seat adaptation to the needs of a diverse user base – depending on height, body shape, and build.

With CASIMIR/Automotive, you gain access to highly precise simulation results instead of relying on subjective impressions. You can evaluate the seat not only based on externally measurable factors but also by virtually "looking inside" the seat to optimize the interplay of individual components.

This level of precision allows you to make well-informed decisions during the development phase, for instance, by analyzing foam utilization and local deformations. Such insights help you optimize material parameters, seat structure, and design to achieve the ideal solution.

CASIMIR/Automotive offers in-depth analysis of the interaction between seat components and their impact on comfort. One of its standout features is its automated evaluation methods, such as:

  • Volumetric Strain Distribution (VSD): This enables you to precisely examine and visualize foam utilization under load, maximizing material efficiency
  • Body Mapping Method: This method quantifies comfort-critical parameters such as peak pressure, pressure gradients, and loaded areas. These metrics can be correlated with discomfort ratings from test subjects to achieve a reliable and evidence-based assessment of seat comfort

The Material Manager facilitates efficient and structured determination of material properties through an intuitive workflow. It guides users step-by-step toward creating material definitions. An enhanced stability check ensures that the defined materials do not cause numerical instabilities during simulation. All created materials are stored in a database and can be exported for further processing in the FE solver at any time.

With over 20 years of experience in seat comfort and human body modeling within the automotive industry, CASIMIR/Automotive provides a powerful software solution that supports you comprehensively at every stage of seat development.

Our expert team is at your disposal with extensive know-how – whether in the application of the software and digital manikins or in addressing complex questions. Additionally, we assist you in interpreting simulation results, offering valuable insights based on proven best practices in seat modeling. This ensures that your projects are implemented efficiently and that you consistently achieve optimal results.
