It is a long way to the first filled bottle, to the first recycled ton, to the first kilowatt hour of electricity produced. The planning and construction of a plant is a major, if not a mega-project. It is often accompanied by high investment costs, complex project plans, a large number of disciplines involved, numerous work steps and high demands on the function, performance and protection of the plant.
However, safety, cost-effectiveness and precise project planning do not have to contradict each other: We solve your structural mechanical challenges by using the latest technology, in-depth expertise and decades of experience from projects in a wide range of industries. And this applies not only to the construction of new plants, but also to upgrades, conversions and retrofits.
To name just a few: The standards DIN EN 1998 (Eurocode 8, EC8), ASCE 7, IEEE 693, KTA 2201.3 and KTA 2201.4 deal with the design of structures and components for the earthquake load case. Beyond that, there are regulations that define the requirements for specific components; in Germany, for example, AD2000, DIN EN 13480-3, DIN EN 13445-3 and VDI 3842 are to be mentioned for pipelines, vessels and other pressure equipment. In the context of vibrations of machines, for instance, the standard series of DIN ISO 10816 or DIN ISO 20816 are regularly applied.
We not only apply these and other regulations on a daily basis in numerous projects, but also regularly communicate relevant updates in our seminars and contribute our specialist knowledge to standard and regulation committees.
We would be happy to perform the required structural mechanical verification calculations for you or advise you from scratch on the design of your plant as well as the solution of vibration problems. For further information, do not hesitate to contact our expert Marcus Ries directly.
With over 50 years of experience in earthquake engineering, we can provide you with competent advice on all matters relating to earthquake design in the context of projects in Germany, Europe and worldwide.

Plants usually emit sound, odors and/or pollutants – this can always cause conflicts. In order to avoid these and high additional costs due to subsequent mitigation measures, it is important to identify potential exceedance of limit values at an early stage – in the best case already during the planning of new plants. We support you with comprehensive analyses, detailed forecasts and innovative solutions.
